The Merivale juggernaut just keeps kicking goals and their latest venture, Queen Chow certainly does not disappoint. Housed in the old Queen Victoria Hotel in Sydney’s Enmore, Queen Chow is inspired by Hong Kong’s famous street kitchens and delivers Chinese classics with a twist. The fit out and interiors set the scene for the dining experience… think dramatic, eclectic and cool with moody wood panelling, huge candles dripping wax onto the bar and a variety of taxidermy mounted to the ceilings and walls. Upstairs the vibe is different … more colonial tropical terrace but one thing’s consistent… the food is fabulous. The kitchen is overseen by Patrick Friesen and Christopher Hogarth (ex Papi Chulo) together with the master in charge of dim sum, Eric Koh (ex Mr Wong). The menu includes all the old faves like the jade seafood dumpling and duck spring rolls together with a selection of some of the most delectable and diverse dumplings, seafood and roast meats. Everything we ordered was fabulous and all designed to share. After dinner you can stop for a cocktail at the Smelly Goat, as eclectic as it’s culinary cousin and within waddling distance of your table! This Queen is a fantastic addition to the Sydney dining scene and a must try if you are as obsessed with Chinese food as we us!
