If you’re serious about your coffee, then you’ve probably already heard of Mecca, who run three stand alone coffee shops in Sydney and supply coffee to numerous others. What you might not know though is that their main roasting site in Alexandria is also home to a great little café in a cool, warehouse style space. Front of house is dedicated to the café which is open for all day brekky and lunch and the back is where the serious coffee business happens and where Joe public can take a peak into a proper roastery in action. It’s a great space with great coffee, great food and a really relaxed vibe. We shared a steak roll with watermelon radish, sauerkraut, dill aioli and chilli bam ($15) and a roast beetroot and pumpkin salad with shanklish, hazelnuts and honey mandarin dressing ($14). Both were absolutely delicious, generous serving sizes and really reasonably priced. We’re already planning a return trip for breakfast to try the house-roasted cereal with ginger and turmeric poached pear and natural yoghurt. And the coffee … well say no more. There’s a reason it has a cult following! Once you’ve had your fill pop across the road to Mitchell Rd Antique and Design Centre to while away an hour until your ready for your next coffee (it would be rude to have just one!)
