Lotus Dumpling Bar in Walsh Bay is not a new comer to the Sydney dining scene, but it’s definitely worth remembering, especially if dumplings are your thing. Housed in an old Port Authority warehouse dating back to the 1900’s, it’s location is a perfect reflection of the combination of old and new, in a menu that is a modern take on authentic Chinese flavours. The linchpin is without doubt their famous dumplings, made fresh everyday. The xiao long bao are our faves, filled with staming hot soup, but to be fair you can’t go wrong with any and all of the dumpling choices on the menu. While these perfect little parcels are certainly the hero, the rest of the menu is equally delicious especially the duck pancake, kung pao chicken and wok fried green beans with minced pork. Lotus has a busy, cool vibe … think exposed brick walls, copper lights, mint green stools and huge hanging plants in concrete pots overhead. But make no mistake this place has a bit of a cult following, so be sure to book ahead (and arrive with an empty stomach).
