The new ‘Precinct 75’ in St Mary’s is fast becoming a creative hub, attracting a tribe of interesting and eclectic designers and brands. Inartisan and Atolyia are two more newcomers to the precinct and we stopped by last week to check out their fab new space and have a chat. These two ‘sister’ brands share a similar aesthetic and are (conveniently) located under one roof. Inartisan was founded by sisters Emily Heysen and Verity Kizek. They have curated a collection of beautiful and unique pieces from around the world that champion the values of craftsmanship and artistic integrity over mass production. Their copper and jewelry ranges are crafted by artisans in the east of Turkey, their reindeer hides are sustainably sourced from Finland and their soy wax candles are hand poured by Emily herself in Melbourne. All these pieces and more are beautifully complimented by the Atolyia range, the brainchild of Verity and her partner Shenol. A lawyer by trade, Verity has always had a passion for more creative pursuits, but it wasn’t until living in Turkey with her partner Shenol that the seed for Atolyia was planted. Together with their Turkish partners they have created a range of products that not only reflect the rich heritage of Turkey but are also unique, beautiful and timeless. Take their hand loomed goat hair rugs. Traditionally worn by shepherds, these rugs are luxuriously soft and hand made by traditional artisans without the use of any dyes. Recently awarded ‘best new product’ at an NYC trade show, these rugs are unlike anything we’ve seen … and will definitely be making an appearance on our Christmas wishlist! The Atolyia range also includes a beautiful range of Turkish towels and robes, silk velvet cushions, blankets, soaps and an eclectic collection of other Turkish treasures like their incredible hand carved marble basins and tapware. With Christmas approaching this is the perfect place to pick up some unique and beautiful gifts and take a look around this blossoming precinct while you’re at it.
